Gramarye and your privacy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
Gramarye is made by Orogeny LLC. It keeps your conversations on your own devices and in your own iCloud. We run no service that receives what you write, and the app sends us no analytics, no telemetry and no crash reports.
What stays on your devices
Everything you keep in Gramarye: your conversations and their search index, what Gramarye has learned about you, your documents and pictures, your settings and the record of what each reply cost. Your API keys, your backup password and your licence key live in your device's Keychain, and, so that a new Mac arrives with them, in your own iCloud Keychain.
What leaves your device, and where it goes
- To the AI provider you choose. When you send a message, the conversation goes to the provider you picked for it, with the passages from your archive that go along with it, using your own API key, under that provider's terms. A picture goes as a copy no larger than 1,568 pixels, with its place, camera and time stripped out. A model that runs on your own Mac keeps it there.
- A web search. The few words the assistant writes for a search go to the provider that answers, which runs the search on its own service under its own terms.
- Your own iCloud. If you use iCloud, your devices keep each other up to date through your own iCloud account. The words, titles and pictures are encrypted so that Apple can't read them; Apple can see things like record names, times and sizes. Some features you can switch on, such as looking things up from your phone or being told on your other devices that a reply is ready, send sealed notes through your iCloud in the same way. Your household's Mac keeps one small sealed record there naming it, so a new Mac of yours can find it, and moving to a new Mac through your iCloud passes a sealed copy of your archive through your iCloud Drive, removed once the new Mac has it.
- Apple, when you buy. Purchases and the free trial go through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card or your Apple Account's details.
- Us, only in three cases.
- A licence bought from our website: the app registers your Mac with our licence server once, then checks daily until the refund window closes (for a website subscription, for as long as it stands). Each call carries the licence key and an anonymous code made from your Mac's hardware identifier, which names no person, account or address, and, when the Mac is registered, the app's version and the kind of device. A copy from the App Store never calls us.
- Checking for updates, only when you press Check for Updates….
- A problem report, only when you write one: Gramarye puts your description and its activity log into an email in your own mail app, and you send it or not. The activity log records what the app did, never what you wrote.
- An import, when you ask. Importing from another service can download the parts of an export from the service that made it.
What we never do
No analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no tracking and no selling of anything. There is no Gramarye account and no Gramarye server holding your data. If you have allowed your device to share analytics with app developers, which is Apple's setting, Apple may pass us anonymous crash reports about Gramarye; you can turn that off in your device's settings. Beta testers on TestFlight also share what TestFlight collects, under Apple's terms.
Children
A household can include a child's account. A child's conversations stay on the family's devices and in the family's iCloud like everyone else's, and go only to the AI providers the household's owner allowed. We collect nothing from anyone, children included.
Your choices
You can export everything, in open formats readable without Gramarye, and delete any conversation, project or your whole account from the app. A private conversation can be erased when you close it. Your provider's own policy governs what you send to it.
